Bailey is the 1 yr. old daughter of Matt and Delaina Miller of Hayti, SD. On May 1st, 2020 Bailey coded and was life-flighted to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
She was then life-flighted to Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha. She’s now at the Children’s Hospital Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. Bailey was brought back to life after working on her for 20 minutes! She was diagnosed with congenital dilated cardiomyopathy. It’s a disease of the heart muscle that usually starts in your heart’s main pumping chamber, the left ventricle. The left ventricle stretches and thins (dilates) and can’t pump blood as well as a healthy heart can. Bailey's heart is working at 25% and for being only 1 yr. old it should be 65%. It was caused by a genetic mutation so Matt, Dalaina and her two older sisters Ellie and Ava were all tested for the gene. Matt, Ellie and Ava showed no gene which is fantastic! Dalaina is still waiting for her results! Bailey is on the list for heart transplant which could take 6 months-1 year to receive a heart.
Bailey, we’re all praying for you and hope your new heart comes sooner than that timeframe! You won’t remember much only being 1 yr. old but Mom, Dad and sisters will fill you in when you get older!
